Be careful what you pray for

So one day, about a year ago, I began to pray for consistency, discipline, and balance. I knew that it was a tall order, but I really wanted to grow!!! The funny part is, I always tell people to be careful what you pray for. And then I had the nerve to pray for consistency, discipline, and balance! I don’t know what I thought would happen!

Maybe I’d fall asleep and the next day, POOF, they were there! Or maybe one by one, they would appear as a part of my personality! Possibly maybe something would click, and like magic, those traits would be like second nature to me! TA DAH!!!

But as you can guess… that DID NOT happen. As I prayed for consistency, my task list increased. Things that needed to be done at certain times or around the same time, appeared on my docket and started to become more common place. Oh and discipline! It would seem that discipline and deadlines go hand in hand. And the deadlines started coming back to back!! Plus, people! When people are relying on you it makes you step up your game!!

Finally balance. This one has been the hardest for me. I prayed for balance, and the responsibilities, as well as the need for self care increased! Almost simultaneously! Finding an equilibrium is so difficult, but very necessary.

So my prayer for consistency, discipline, and balance, yielded more tasks, deadlines, and increased responsibility both to others and myself.

Bottom line: Be careful what you pray for. The Holy Spirit is listening. And if you’re not careful, you’ll get EXACTLY what you asked for, maybe not as you wanted it, but as you needed it.

Selah.
