New Year… Same me?
Every year as the clock strikes twelve on December 31st, we celebrate and hug and rejoice that we’ve made it to a new year! A clean slate! A chance to right some wrongs, establish new habits, and meet some new goals for ourselves. YES!!!
But January 1st is not an automatic life reset. There is no large red button at the end of each year that can erase the pain and heartache the previous year left in its wake. No magical fairy dust that washes away all of our bad decisions. and no jolly man dressed in red that drops piles of money down the chimney to solve all our debt problems! January 1st is just the day that comes after December 31st. And we bring the same problems and habits, emotions and loss into it as we had the day before. We are in effect still the same.
While we may not be able to control or change EVERYTHING we dislike about our lives overnight, there is one piece that can change on a dime and make all the difference in the world. One area so powerful that it can interrupt our unhappiness and reshape our destinies. And all it takes to tap in, is a decision.
We can choose to adjust our mindset. The mind is so powerful that a glass half empty can look half full when you adjust your mindset. I believe Charles Swindoll said it best when he said “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”
We can choose to take a good, honest look at our lives and make the changes necessary in order to be the best version of ourselves possible! We can choose to adjust, be inspired, be honest, forgive, and love as Jesus would and watch as He manifests beauty through our lives. Our time in prayer and worship with the Lord every day, throughout the day, is the catalyst and the constant we need to see the world and every situation through Heaven’s eyes.
So this year I have decided to change my mindset. Instead of waiting for life to fall into my lap, I am going to be more consistent with what I do, create opportunities to share love and light with the world, share my concerns with those I trust and allow them to support my journey, be more disciplined with the things I consume (both physically and spiritually), stop worrying and being anxious about life when it starts LIFE-ING, and seek the Lord in prayer. I choose, with the help of my Creator, to be the best version of myself I can be. This is my vow to myself.
Won’t you join me?
